Michelle Haché moved to Austin after completing her Graduate Degree at the Juilliard School in New York. Michelle has appeared in many leading roles in both opera and music theatre in New York and around the country. Since arriving in Austin, she has been nominated for the B. Iden Payne Award six times as both a leading actor and director, winning in 2010 and 2013 for Best Leading Actress, and in 2016 for Best Direction of a Musical and Best Musical of the Year. Additionally, Michelle is a reviewer for The Austin Chronicle and Broadway World, a national adjudicator for the NATS and Hal Leonard Vocal Competitions, and has been an award-winning instructor in voice for over 14 years. Members of her studio continue to achieve top placements in the country’s largest vocal competitions, and they have earned numerous roles in Broadway tours, as well. She is an active member of The Juilliard Teacher Directory, The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and The Educational Theatre Association.
Music Director and Band Leader
For over a decade, Tyler Mabry has composed and performed original music in the Austin area, in collaboration with various organizations, collectives, and performers. Mabry is a Vortex company member, music director for kidsActing, and pianist at Berkeley United Methodist Church. Persephone, his first full-length musical for adult performers, premiered at Vortex in 2016. He has been nominated twice for a B. Iden Payne award for Best Original Score, for Persephone and for Running Wild (ACT). Other theater credits include the Barbarella-inspired aerial rock spectacle Agent Andromeda (Sky Candy), W. (AJRT), The Noisy Neighbors (Different Stages), Cuchulain (Vortex), Stuffed! (FronteraFest), Two Gentlemen of Verona (Something for Nothing), and Jive, Kitty! (ACT). He has also composed numerous sacred choral works, including two cantatas (The True Light and Lonesome Valley, co-written with Victoria Schwarz) and “I Heard the Voice of Jesus” (soon to be published by Shawnee Press). When not in rehearsals and techs, he plays with the neo-soul group Jade and the Foxtones. Tyler Mabry holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.A. in piano performance from the University of the Ozarks.
